Remodeling in Cape Coral
What to Know Before You Remodel in Cape Coral
Cape Coral has more than 400 miles of canals, more than any other city in the world, and the canal is the reason many people live here. Developed from the late 1950s by Gulf American Land Corporation, the city's southeast quadrant has the oldest homes, mostly 1960s and 1970s block ranches, while the north and west filled in from the 1990s on, with building booms in the 2000s and again after 2015. Almost all of it is single-story concrete block construction.
Typical Cape Coral projects are about the outdoor living space as much as the house: pool cages and lanai enclosures, sliding glass walls to the pool deck, impact windows and doors facing the canal, and kitchens that open to the back of the house. Older homes in the southeast Cape also need full interior remodels, new openings and updated electrical. Gulf-access canal homes are mostly in FEMA flood zones, so the 50% rule comes into play on large remodels and rebuilds.
Hurricane Ian in 2022 hit Cape Coral hard, with storm surge along the southern canals and wind damage to roofs and pool cages across the city, and Milton in 2024 added more. Cape Coral is an incorporated city, so permits go through the City of Cape Coral Department of Community Development. We know their submittal requirements and inspection process, and we handle them for you.

Prestigious Home Improvements: 5.0 stars on Google from Southwest Florida homeowners.

“We found Prestigious Improvements at the Sarasota home show last year among a number of contractor exhibits. The bid and project was to replace an original exterior aluminum wall and storm door on the back of our lanai constructed circa 1985. … The windows and door are storm rated; the interior was finished to match the room walls, paint color and textures. While the project duration went longer than expected due to building permit issues and inspection scheduling, the finished product is well-done with quality materials and workmanship.”
Ronald S.Manatee County · Lanai wall rebuild & storm doorGoogle “We are so glad that we chose Prestigious Home Improvement (out of 4 companies we received quotes from). It truly is a family business and Tim and Vlad are extremely knowledgeable in the skills needed for executing replacement and installation of doors and windows according to county building codes. … Tim was very good in keeping us advised as to the timeline for the supplies and he worked around our calendar needs as well. We highly recommend this small, family owned and operated business!”
Jwb M.Sarasota · Exterior doors, sliders & windowYelp “If you're searching for a company that is reliable and very experienced at installing sliding glass doors then choose Prestigious Home Improvements. From start to finish the installation of our sliders by Tim Fomin and his skilled team was professional, smooth and stress-free. Thanks again Tim.”

Nick & Ashley O.Windows, doors, siding & shuttersGoogle “Prestigious Home Improvements are the best! I have used them to replace windows, reframe windows, and work on fixing a leak near a slider. They are simply excellent. They approach each job analytically and think through options and then select the one that gets the job done. Their pricing is fair and they are pleasant to work with.”
